So I just got a mac book yesterday. Am thrilled, but some things are a little confusing. My main issue now is with third-party apps. I downloaded and installed Messenger, but for some reason it won't sign in. It says that there's an error and its either unavailable or I am not connected to the internet. Which, of course, I am lol. The other big problem has been with drop box. I downloaded the installer for it, but when I open it it tells me unknown and that's it. Just curious if anone has some insight or general advice. Thanks a lot! I really do love the mac, though, xD

there is some stuff that is not accessible with vo as far as setting up dropbox is consurned, which i'm not really sure about, but hopefully i'll find out by next weekend. and as far as the messenger thing goes that is very very strange. like I said I wont know how to resolve a lot of this stuff until I get my mack mini next weekend. if you need my assistants for anything, you have me on messenger and stuff, so feel free to ask. you may also want to take a look at www.blindcooltech.com for a lot of tutorials that mike arrigo has done on the mack.

I never had any luck with MSN on OS X. Try Adium instead and see if that works for you.

Adium seems to work much better, all of my Mac buddies use it.(I don't have a Mac.), but I want one though.

usually when you hear "unknown" it means that voiceover does not recognize the content of the window. Adium is a great alternative to mesenger and supports a variety of services. Enjoy that mac.

Sometimes, you can interact with an element that says unknown, and it actually will let you see what it is. That's how I set Dropbox up, if I remember correctly. Also, use those mouse commands, VO-command-f5 to move the mouse to the focus, and vo-shift-space to click.

Great points!!!! I tried using GoogleChrome and although it is much more accessible there are items that say "unknown". Interacting with them reveals many choices. The bad thing about google chrome is now all the quick navigation does not work because chrome sees headings and other elements as "unknown" rendering all the easy ways to get around a webpage unusable. I would gather the item chooser and link chooser might work but there are other elements that apparently are not correctly displayed.

Why not use safari or firefox?

I love safari but like to try other things simply to keep on the bleeding edge of technology. Firefox is not accessible at all to voiceover. I do use it on the PC and like it.
